Assisted Job Search (Supervised)

Liberate searches for roles on your behalf, fills the applications, and stops for you at the points that genuinely need a person. It runs in four steps, in this order. Each one below assumes the one above it is done.

What happens next

You approve the ones worth applying to, then press apply. Nothing is submitted on its own. Hands-off applying is set up further down, once the extension is installed.

Whatever the batch size, nothing is ever submitted without your approval, and a role you rule out is remembered so the next search stops bringing you ones like it.

Don’t see a target company?

A few employers hide their jobs behind their own site. If a company you want isn’t showing up, open its careers page yourself and click the extension’s “Add this page’s jobs” — its postings drop straight into your tracker, warm-firm and current-employer rules applied.
Worley and Arcadis are pulled in automatically. For Fluor (careers.fluor.com), Parsons (careers.parsons.com) and other firms that lock their listings, harvest them this way — your signed-in browser can read what our server cannot.

1Automated applying — install the Chrome extension

A website cannot type into a different company’s website — every browser forbids it, and that is a good rule. So the part of Liberate that actually fills an employer’s application is not this page. It is a small Chrome extension that runs on your own computer, in your own browser, under your own login.

That is also why your details stay put. Your résumé and your answers are read from this computer and typed straight into the employer’s form. They are not uploaded to us to be filled in somewhere else.

Without the extension you still get search, the tracker, coaching, and every posting link. You just fill each application by hand.
With it Liberate opens each posting, fills the whole form, attaches your résumé, and either stops at Submit or submits for you — your choice, set in step 2.

Updating later works the same way: download the new file, then press Reload on the Liberate card in chrome://extensions. An extension left on an old version keeps running old code with no other sign anything is wrong, so the status line above calls it out when yours falls behind.

Which firms should it search?

Liberate reads your résumé and target titles, works out what field you are actually in, and builds a list of employers who hire for it. The list drives every sweep. You can edit it any time in Criteria.

Autopilot settings

Checking the box below does two things at once: while this tab is open, it also runs on the interval you pick here; and it enrolls you for a guaranteed daily run on our server, so new matches still land in your tracker (and in your inbox, if email alerts are on) even with every tab and browser closed.

Apply automatically in the background (unattended)

When Autopilot finds matches (or you open Auto-Apply), it works through the queue in background browser tabs, opening each employer's site and filling the whole application — résumé included — with no clicking through each one. It only stops for something it genuinely can't do itself: a real sign-in, a CAPTCHA, or 2FA.

How the final Submit is handled — your choice of finish mode in Auto-Apply:

Notify — it fills every field and stops at the Submit button. You do the final click yourself.
Approve each — it fills the application, holds the tab open, and sends you a notification (in the app and to your phone) with an Approve button and a countdown. Tap Approve — even from your phone — before the timer runs out and your computer submits it for you, in the same signed-in session. Miss the timer and it lands in Needs Your Attention so nothing is lost.
Auto-submit — it clicks the final Submit itself, no approval step, for the fullest hands-off run.

The actual Submit always happens on this computer, where you're signed in — that's what keeps the employer's site from rejecting it. Your phone is the approve button; your computer needs to be awake with the tab open for the click to land. It still stops for CAPTCHAs, logins, and passwords in every mode. Anything it parks for you is waiting in Needs Your Attention.

24/7 note: this deployment already runs the server-side daily sweep for every enrolled account -- enrollment happens automatically the moment you check "Enable Autopilot" above, no extra setup needed. The interval you pick (1-24h) only controls the faster, browser-side runs while a tab is open; the server-side run happens once daily regardless.

2Review what it finds

Roles waiting for your yes or no 0

Nothing is applied to until you say so. Every role Liberate finds waits here for you to look at it. Tick the ones you actually want, and only those get applied to. Ignore the rest and nothing happens.

Searching by job title is blunt: a title like “Engineering Manager” exists in software, in manufacturing, and in civil engineering. So a few roles that are not really your field will land in this list. That is expected, and it is why you get the last word before an application goes out in your name.

A role tagged Possible mismatch is one where the job description reads like a different industry than the one you told us you work in. It is a nudge to read that one properly, not a verdict — approve it anyway if you know better.

Approve a role and it joins the apply queue. When you next run Auto-Apply, it opens each approved job, fills the form, and stops or submits according to the finish mode you picked in step 2.

3Teach it the awkward sites

▸ Train the app on a site that filled badly optional — only when a site misbehaves

Most application forms fill correctly on the first try. A few are built oddly enough that Liberate puts the right answer in the wrong box, or misses fields entirely. When that happens you can show it the site once, by hand, and it will remember the layout for every future application on that same site.

Open the job application that filled badly.
Click Liberate Auto-Apply in your Chrome toolbar to open its popup.
In the Learning Mode card (on by default), hit Start recording.
Fill that application yourself, normally, start to finish.
Hit Stop & save. That site is learned.

What gets saved is which box holds which kind of answer on that site — not the text you typed. Needs the extension from step 1.

in LinkedIn connections import

Fill the LinkedIn column for your whole pipeline at once. On LinkedIn go to Settings & Privacy → Data privacy → Get a copy of your data, then choose “Download larger data archive” — LinkedIn no longer lists Connections as one of the individual files you can pick, it's only bundled in the full archive now. Request it (LinkedIn says about 24 hours to prepare), then upload the Connections.csv from inside the zip here. Liberate tallies your 1st-degree connections per company and matches them to your jobs (fuzzy, so “Acme” matches “Acme Engineering Group”). Everything stays in your browser.

Live company boards (Greenhouse & Lever)

The most reliable live source: pull openings straight from an employer's own job board — free, real-time, and structured. Add companies you want to track. Each search keeps only roles that match your target titles, and a role is marked closed the moment it disappears from the company's board. Type a company name (we'll find its board) or paste a board URL like jobs.lever.co/figma or boards.greenhouse.io/stripe. Note: this only covers employers hosted on Greenhouse or Lever — many large engineering firms (Workday, iCIMS, Taleo) won't be found here, and are better tracked through the main Job Search.

The companion extension autofills applications on Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, Taleo, SmartRecruiters, Ashby, SuccessFactors, Oracle and more — including the “Continue with Google” email/account step when a browser session is already there to complete it. You always click Submit yourself, and it always stops for you at a password, 2FA, CAPTCHA, or a Google consent screen.

Desktop only: the extension runs in Chrome or Edge on a computer. (A Safari version for Mac + iPhone via the App Store is on the way.) On a phone you can still find, tailor, track, and open postings.

Notifications

Liberate pings you when a job needs your sign-in, hits a CAPTCHA or 2FA prompt during Auto-Apply, or an application is ready to submit. The primary channel is Web Push — real notification banners on your phone or computer, no extra app. An optional ntfy fallback is below for status-change alerts.

Backup & Restore All Data

Everything you have entered (status changes, notes, LinkedIn counts, offers in Decision Matrix, calendar events, addresses, target salary, base city, Claude API key, portfolio, master resume) lives in this browser’s localStorage. localStorage is per origin, so if you open the app from a different URL (Netlify vs localhost vs file://) you will see a different dataset. Use Backup to save a JSON snapshot and Restore to load it anywhere.

Tip: schedule yourself a weekly reminder to back up. Signing in already gives you real cross-device sync (your data follows you to any device the moment you sign in) -- Backup/Restore here is for the two things sign-in sync doesn't carry: your uploaded résumé/portfolio files and any device-local API keys.

Advanced: sync via your own Firebase project instead

Signing in already syncs everything through Liberate's own backend -- most people don't need this. This is a separate, optional path for anyone who'd rather their data sync through a Google Cloud project they own and control, never touching Liberate's servers at all. Requires creating your own free Firebase project.

Local only

Advanced: live LinkedIn auto-fetch from a helper running on your own computer

The Connect LinkedIn CSV import (Networking menu) is the path that works for everyone, no setup beyond a one-time export -- most people should just use that. This is a separate, optional path for a live per-company connection count instead of a one-time file, but it requires a small companion service running on your own Mac and reachable from this browser (Tailscale or same network). It's not something most users can turn on -- it needs that companion actually installed and running first.

URL and token come from the helper you run on your own computer -- both are stored only on this device, never sent to Liberate's servers. Once saved, the ⟳ next to any company's connection count (Company Intel, Needs Follow-up) pulls a live number from this service instead of your last CSV import.

Needs Follow-up

Review applications that have gone quiet and draft follow-up notes for the ones where you actually have a contact. Honest caveat: most job postings give you no way to email anyone, so treat this as a review list, not an automation.
